well sorta... but i get a mini 2 and half day weekend starting in 4 hours.. OMG.. i can't wait.
completely random side note.
pro basketball is getting silly. you see grown men that are 6'8 250 whatever.. just falling down all over the place at the smallest touch. Yes.. i know they are flopping, but this has to be an epidemic.. Last night.. there was a guy guarding me that was 6'2 220, and he hooked my arm and just fell... and i got a foul call.. the dude started clapping as he walked to the free throw line.. so i talked to the ref.. and asked how a short chinese kid could manage to throw that guy to the floor. I even flexed for good effect. That guy later had 3 various fouls while trying to flop around me. the last was beautiful because he tried to draw a charge, but i stopped on a dime without touching him, and he STILL fell. when i hit my shot i just laughed at him saying "Come on Shane Battier, get your fat butt up." trashtalk at it's best my friends... =P

this is the horoscope i got today from them...
Overview: Been thinking about moving far, far, away -- or at least going to visit for an extended period of time? Well, it's good to get away -- especially if you need time and space to clear your head. Need it? Take it.
jeez.. scary.. so there's supposed to be a solar eclipse today too? woo.

You guys are lucky... 3 posts today.
anyway.. this is on the music i've been listening to. I've been somewhat caught up in the latest movement called mashups/bootlegs whatever.. Basically you take 2 or more songs and throw them together. Some are solid, some are awful. LIke the Jay-z/Linkin Park efforts.
here's the latest one that i've been burning....
it's Weezer's "Beverly Hills", Queens "We Will Rock You", and Joan Jetts "I love Rock and Roll."
apparently there's a sweet home alabama thrown in somewhere? i have no idea. but props go to DJTripps of the site below.
Other things that have been good
the Kleptones did a full on queen bootleg, with various artists that was simply incredible.
http://www.kleptones.com/pages/yhh.htmland i couldn't find a link for this mashup.. but it was the first one that really got me into it.
Greenday "boulevard of broken dreams" vs. Oasis "wonderwall"
edit:
for the greeday/oasis one.

Its amazing.. i think i'm semi-serious about wanting to strangle a certain someone. I just can't figure out if this person is behaving this way out of sheer idiocy or ignorance.
I think i'm leaning towards the first since that more excusable.

Heard Kevin and Bean talking about this on the radio this morning.. got me thinking.. PineWood Derby.. =)
Do you guys know what this is? If not, basically it's a cub scout right of passage for those of us who were brainwashed as kids.
You get a block of wood, 4 wheels, and some nails. The goal is to saw/sand/cut/whatever your block of wood into anything resembling a car, attach the wheels, maybe paint it, and then race it against everyone elses pine wood derby.
So being first generation and all... me and my parents didn't realize that this was more or less a pissing contest between all the dads. I ended up doing my own car completely by myself. I asked my dad, but frankly... he had no idea.. he could design circuits, but modelling wood.. eheh.. yeah right.
Heck.. we didn't even have a good clamp at home for me to saw teh block, so i remember going to my neighbor's house and using their equipment.
Suffice to say... there was not one slower car at the races that day.
but in hindsight, i'm glad that I built it on my own, and actually almost beat some of the daddymobiles ( at the age of 8!!!). I have a great story about pinewood derby cars, and i started my independant engineering at a very early age =P
explains a bit don't it?

and i LOVE sports... and while i'm running one of my sims i get some free time to browse...
I came across this article on Sports Illustrated.
it's about timmy chang, the U of Hawaii Quarterback, who's looking to get drafted this coming saturday. Now.. i have no problem with don banks profiling Timmy, i mean jeez.. when's the last time you heard of a chinese kid playing the starting quarterback (or football for that matter) of a Div 1 school. Now this Chinese kid set the NCAA div 1 record for most yards EVER. (beating my man Phil Rivers).
What I can't stand is Don stirring up controversy by saying there is some sort of draft bias against Chang since he's asian, and implying that some people say he plays "short."
Bias... are you sure he really meant to say bias? Are you saying that if Chang was say.. Caucasian, he would get drafted higher? No.. he wouldnt' dare say the "r" word (racisism). Racism is left for the other minorities. We Asians are the model minority and we don't count remember? =P
Anyway.. it's not my point and it's not a race war.. It's a jab against the media. For stirring a pot that isn't being stirred.
Chang was a prolific college quarterback, playing a gimmicky offense, in a weak football conference. When it came to put up or shut up times, he was the one getting shutup. June jones plays a quarterback friendly system, and ANYONE in that system would put up some monster stats against the many D-II, or D-III quality schools they faced. When he played against anyone real, he folded. (have you seen Hawaii win any bowl games?)
Alright.. so.. your right.. i hate that he is using Asians to stir up trouble.. or to get certain groups of overly sensitive minorities angry. People like Norm Chow, or Timmy Chang, or Dat Nguyen... they are FOOTBALL people first that just happen to be Asian. Let them be football people, and all of a sudden Don Banks finally can talk to Norm Chow simply because he's the top Asian name in football? What does he talk to him about? Football X's and O's? USC's National Championship? His Quarterback Protoges (Steve Young, Phil Rivers, Carson Palmer, Matt Leinart. not bad!!). no... he asks him about that Asian kid in the draft.
Don Banks is a jackass.

so i'm in NC now. Anyone still in town and not too busy studying for finals? Give my cell a holler =)

well... i was home for the weekend and such. just so happened to coincide with baby blue, so i tried to get picked up. wei had a roster spot and i joined his ASA group of champs.
leading up to it, i got t o see some old friends that had moved away. eddy & norman. ended up going to sushi blues 2x, not that im complaining =P
also got to take c are of a few household things... and prep for my dad coming back home (potentially.)
then babyblue came around.. and i actually played ok this year despite being somewhat frustrated. in our last game i was actually the tallest guy there so i got to tipoff. hahaha silly me... but there's a rteason i don't do these sorts of things.
so... as those of you in the area know... i fell and was brought off the court by the paramedics with what looked to be a dislocated elbow...
man... i can only be as jealous...
ended up with 1 dislocated radius. fractured ulna, radius AND humerous, and i completely tore my MCL. (i didn't know that elbows had those...)
anyway.. i did a "great job of destroying my elbow." says the ortho guy. so much so that i will need it replaced!!.. ugh.. surgery.... *sigh*
on top of that...
i've found out the hard way that realigning a dislocated elbow hurts a whole hell of a lot more than a dislocated shoulder (yup i've had both now). ihad 2 shots of morphine followed by a rather large injection of lidicaine (sp?). this stuff is nuts.. its basically makes you have a super muscle cramp for two minutes... my muscles were on fire..
anyway.. after the immediate effects it took away all the pain.. and was great... until...
the realligned my elbow, i heard "pop", "pop", "crank", "crunch", and the apparently i was passed out for the next 5 minutes. yupp just blacked out completely from the pain. i remember screaming like a little girl too. easily the most painful thing ever experieced... (we're talking about someone who was eating solid foods 12 hours after extracting his wisdom teeth.)
anyway.. it hurt and i still need surgery.
1 thing of special note: i will definitely be switching insurance carriers. kaiser permanente apparently doesn't allow for out of network surgeries even though i'm supposed to do it asap. so... basically they will be paying for my $30k surgery, and i will be leaving in november. bastards....
in the meantime i get to fly back to cali with my busted arm. and try to figure how to mix work and hospital visits in with my dad visitations.
this is normally where i am told that this is just a way for God to test me. i wish he had made it easier, but it looks like i may not be in nc afterall...
anyway a big thanks go out to those who helped/called/gave support, a couple of people in particular..
jeff for bringing me my crap from woolen despite some past differnces.
anna for actually dropping her project to drive out to get me at 11 pm, and not blow up at me after calling her mid trip to let her know i wouldnt actually be discharged.
and leslie for dropping her sat night schedule to move my car from woolen to the hospital, and then actually still being there to chat with when the doc broke all the bad news. discharged me and told me to leave the hospital. and after hearing all that volunteered to drive me back to cary. simply amazing girl.. and jawad would be lucky to have yas =) oh and for the three straight carolina guys out there... she's available!! and she'll actually eat her steak unlike certain people i meet =P
anyway one last note
percocets >>>> vicodin.
but there's a reason only hospitals can give morphine.. my gosh... i can really understand drug addiction...
oh... and this was such a pain to type since i only have 1 hand now....
Posted by bert at 08:23 AM on April 26, 2005 in ME.
i could throw down my laundry. take a shower and make myself my lunch. wow.. did i really take my left arm for granted.
it took me 20 minutes today just to wash my hair. another 8 to get my contacts in.
this recovery will suck but i'm getting better at the one-handed typing....
Posted by bert at 08:15 AM on April 29, 2005 in ME.
man... never realized how much i used my arm. i've basically been left dependant on others for everything lately. and it sucks since my nature is independance. egh... no more softball/basketball on thursday, can't drive my car (manual), can't run (yet), no gym, no surfing, no video games. man not much left for me to do besides sit online and chat slowly.
*sigh*... i am so bored. anyone got some interesting books to read? i've burned through 4 books since saturday... any other ideas?
