i can't begin to describe..

Posted by bert at 03:59 PM on May 6, 2005 in ME.

the amount of pain i've been in the last few days, since i had surgery on my elbow.

the final verdict was three fractured heads,  and many torn ligaments/tendons.  i had a few bone chips as well that had to be re-attached (screwed into bone).  to heal the ligaments they put in at least 4 pins (that i can feel) and some metal crossbars to brace the arm in a 90 degree position.

suufice to say the most pain is from these foreign pins sticking out of my arm. or when i move and feel the scabs tear on my skin.  yeah great huh?

anyway i know its been awhile, so i just wanted to update that all is well and that i am in good spirit, but not necesarily health.  i AM sleeping 18 hours a day though =)

gimme a call if bored, i have a lot of time on my hands these days.

weekend update

Posted by bert at 10:08 PM on May 15, 2005 in ME.

with kevin nealand?

nah.. its just me.

anyway.  its been awhile since i updated.  For those of you that are keeping check.  the arm is doing much better.  the range of motion at the elbow pivet is between 75 to 105 degrees currently.  i think next week i'm supposed to extend it another 15 degrees.   it hurts like hell, but i'm glad i'm no longer in a stank ass cas.  YAY for showering.  lol.

ok.  so i went out clubbing/bars friday night to a spot in newport.  I should have thought of it earlier, but i had just gotten my pins pulled the day before..  and well since drinking increases the blood circulation...  well.. yeah..  each one of those spots that had a pin started hurting like crazy after a few drinks..   like almost passed out bad....  so imma chalk that one up as a "lesson learned."

saw monster-in-law today with some of the fam.   it was actually a lot better than i thought it would be.   jane fonda played a great crazy ass mom.  and i really like wanda sykes and her dry one-liners =).  just a good humor movie, but not worth the price of evening admissions. =)

okay...'nuff typing for one dy.

So theres this person..  I've been trying to be compassionate, and caring and understanding and just a damn good friend.  Was listening to music as always from work...

this is from a john mayer song.

Don't wanna be so angry
Don't wanna keep so quiet
Now its open fire and i can warm
Don't wanna be so careful
Don't care enough to mind.

and you know what.. this person is just not worth trying to be friends with until she figures things out for herself.  I'll always be me, and if thats a problem.  sorry, but i really hate who you are now.

Hold Me! Like you did at the Lake on Naboo....

Posted by bert at 05:05 PM on May 20, 2005 in ME.

ok..  so this is just one example of the memorable dialogues in the Episode 3.

so here's a summary of the movie:

Hot action sequences.  Seriously their special effects are so much better than anyone elses in hollywood.  its not even close.

The worst dialogue on any movie i have ever seen.  It's incredible how bad George Lucas's scripts made Natalie Portman look like a C- actress.   Just awful.  "you're breaking my heart annie..."

George...  man..  get that guy from scrubs to write a script for you.  Look how Natalie was in Garden State.

Fight sequences were pretty badass, tho i thought ewan mcgregor got the best part of that deal.

I feel so unsatisfied with how they portrayed the birth of Darth Vader.

Vaders Blue/Red touch buttons look so damn cheesy now.   Reminded me of that Triumph the Insult Dog saying - "Is that the button you press to call your mommy to come pick you up?"

Hayden Christiansen seems like he can't act.  Not sure if it's George's fault or his, but damnit, this movie could have been so much better if you could just done away with all talking.  Even Yoda's lines sucked.  He's still cool though.

BBQ Galor

Posted by bert at 08:54 AM on May 23, 2005 in ME.

Well... must thank Viv and Amy again for hosting what was a fantabulous BBQ at their place, even tho all 3 of their overgrown rats.  er... i mean Chihuahas were barking at me constantly  (They must be able to smell my cat from a mile away), it was still a blast.  It's been awhile since I last saw Kathy and Rob, and we got to trade war stories with me and bum arm and Rob and his surgically repaired finger.   Incredible.  Everyone is getting hurt these days, but damn... his finger was sliced off...  damn....

Anyway.. food wise was insanity.  we had Ribs, Chicken Drumsticks, potato salad, Ribeye steaks that were 1.5 inches thick, Corn on the cobb, Grilled Sausages, Shishkabobs.   Seriously we were not missing anything.  I even did a solid Seared Ahi for an Appetizer.   Man.. so easy and so good.  I was VERY happy with the turnout for that.   Watch OUT PF CHANGS!!  In the end i think i gained at least 5 pounds which is an indication of any good BBQ.   Oh and Kathy brought this Banana Split Pie from Marie Callenders.   OMG so solid.  You must try it before it goes out of season.   So..  i think we will have to do more BBQs, esp after Rob moves to tustin.  Turns out he's practically next door now.   It'll be cool and we'll have to do some fine Luau action this summer.   I get the Tiki Torches.

On a completely different note..

Check this out.  It messed with my mind, but then again.. it is monday =).

Frustrations at work.

Posted by bert at 07:50 AM on May 25, 2005 in ME.

I don't know how many of you have experienced any sort of age discrimination at work.. but man.. there's this new guy at work here....  and he's just to most annoying SOB I have ever worked with.

So this guy is a new hire into our program.  A level 3 or 4 or 5 systems Engineer, basically hired in to do the same crap as me, only overlook some people in the process.    For the past couple of months I've taken both my job responsibilities and the job responsibilities of this guy (since we had no one at teh higher level).

I was so glad we hired someone in to take over...  only now i regret it slightly.

It's been 2 weeks now and i've had at least 6 arguements with him on the architecture of our system.  after 10 days he's decided that the software architecture of a spec I have been developing for the past 1.5 years is not correct, and has additional functionality for our program.

Irregardless of if i show him our Design review charts, or what we have baselined, this guy thinks i'm just pulling his leg.   Until i go with him to the senior systems guy and prove i know what I'm talking about.  and then he shuts up and goes back to his cube.   The next morning it starts all over again with another new requirement that he thinks is right.

this is gettign old because everyday i spend about 3 hours alleviating his "concerns" and actually explain things out.  and everytime i need to go to a senior engineer before he beleives me.  Funny.. the 35 year guy who is also in my group doesn't get any of this and he has little or no idea what he's doing...

Gah...  so annoying.  sorry.. just had to bitch about it.  it's funny cuz i can't get into anymore detail either.  stupid security.

Memorial Day Weekend

Posted by bert at 08:52 AM on May 31, 2005 in ME.

Hope Everyone had a great weekend.  It definitely went by too fast.

I spent some of it cleaning and most of psuedo partying.

Friday.  this was chill day.  More like...  get all your laundry done and clean the house day.. but those are just details.   It's a good day when you can watch The Incredibles and clean house.   Jack Jack rules.

Saturday happened.   I dont' really remember what happened though.. It kinda went by really quick.  I think i watched a movie and something or... welll i just don't know.  I think i missed a day this weekend.  Completely uselessness =).  Maybe i played World of Warcraft.  I just don't remember..

Sunday we tailgated at Angel's Stadium before watching the Angels take down the Royal's 7-6.   Baseball games are great, and we brought in this huge bag of peanuts.  And there was a family with 3 little boys who were at their first game ever.   Basically not paying attention to the action on the field.   BUT... they were very interested watching me and Bryon spit peanut and sunflower shells.  They wanted in on the big boy action too.   So we taught these kids how to shell peanuts.   They decided sunflower seeds were definitely not worth the effort though.   But they had a grand old time with the peanuts and brought home the rest of our bag.   Their parents found a nice quiet night to themselves cuz these kids literally took 2 minutes to deshell each nut.   =)

After the game, we went to one of STUFF  Magazine's top 20 ranked dive bars in the nation.  Called the swinging door.  Only reason this place does out is they have decently good looking bartenderesses... walking around in basically short short spandex.   it was an alright place, and was actually really busy for 5 in teh afternoon.  We left soon afterwards to get some Mexican food at this hole in the wall, and pulled a night cap with Madagascar.   We were Going to go clubbing at my buddy's club afterwards but at 9 p.m. we were exhausted and called it a night.

Monday was great since i had planned for this ginormous BBQ.  for me and 20+ of my friends.  Basically starting at lunch... and going until..  whenever.

We started eating around 12'ish and just cooked the food, people be damned.   around 2 we made our way to the park across the street and proceeded to revert back to our 4th grade childhoods.   We played a couple of games of Ultimate Frisbee followed by a solid 9 inning game of kickball, with the biggest kickball ever used in the game.  We're talking about 1.5 foot diameter.   and it left welts on your legs.  After that we knew the game would be good.  We followed with a game of football, and went back for teh night feast where Leo made carnitas for all.   yum.   topped it off with some people playing cranium and others playing texas holdem.    all in all it was a good night, and the cleanup wasn't too bad.

But what do i do with 32 hotdogs left over?  what about the 5 tubs of icecream?   ok... i do know what to do with the icecream =)
