So When do People get stupid?

Posted by bert at 11:29 PM on June 30, 2005 in ME.

Any sociologist/pyschologists out there that can accurately explain the stupidity of herd mentality?

What about what the optimal number of people are before the group gets stupid?

Why is it that whenever we get more than 8 people to go out at a time (just for fun mind you) that we get incredibly dumb, slow, and DUMB!

i hate people sometimes..  thats why tomorrow we get to catch DJ Quik over at the House of Blues =)  See yas there.

Live from San Diego..

Posted by bert at 10:26 AM on July 3, 2005 in ME.

it's Mission Bay Live!.

ok.. so this town is just a freaking blast.  We went out and did the sushi and bar scenes last night, and it was one of the best nights ever, despite the lack of clubs.   Girls plentiful, friends all around,  Good food, good drinks, random house parties that got broken up repeatedly.   All in all good San Diego fun...

Today... we're going to the Mission Bay beach, and spending the entire day out there...   playing ultimate, football, paddleball, surfing, and whatever else we can think of.

anyway.. i have a ton of pictures, but we'll see if i can upload them. =)

Everyone have a great July 4th.

Bonfires + Beach + Fireworks =

Posted by bert at 08:38 AM on July 5, 2005 in ME.

perfect ending to July 4th festivities.

Man.. i'm friggen exhausted.   Friday we took Lucas to House of Blues for his B-day, followed by Saturday at Mission Bay for a good round of sakebombing, and then i don't remember what we finished with, but i do remember dropping about 40 bucks for pizza.   We got these sick breakfast burritos the next morning before heading to the beach and playing about 8hours of volleyball.   I realize now while i was doing my suntan lotion, I missed this one spot on my leg.   It burns/hurts like hell.  yeah.. mark that in my "lessons learned."  Anyway.. 7 hours of volleyball, meeting new peeps on the beach, like miss thang, half-Phiilipino yet "i'm not Asian!!!" girl.  Oh well..  we rocked them good.  More U of A peeps (apparently they float all over the place), and some good 'ole reminiscing about Bojangles with Jenny, Andrew, Dan, and Carter.  who?  most all of them are UNC-W's go figure... in San Diego...

Sunday was a blur, but i think it ended well and a good time had by all.  Monday (that was yesterday?), was get together, grab a lunch, and then head back to the OC for some fireworks at Huntington Beach.  The boat shop owned decided to test his entreprenurial spirit and charge parking on his lot ($20 a car).  profiteering on our patriotism...  tsk tsk.   oh well.. we packed 6 in our car so it was like $3 a pop, and quickly we joined the Minsons and family for some good ole weanie roasting.  The fireworks would have been cooler except we were downwind, meaning teh smoke floated infront of some of the fireworks (sad...)  I made it back to bed by 11:30 and promptly passed out till 7, and forced myself into the office.

I'm tired and grumpy now, but i'm pretty damn sure I had a great weekend.   I'll try to put up some pictures later, but frankly, i'm not sure where my camera is. =)

Posted by bert at 04:44 PM on July 7, 2005 in ME.

not much going on... it's now decided that my birthday weekend has turned into celebration weekend.

a hearty congrats goes out to the following (who read and never post!!  jerks... sign up to tabulas and support roy!!)

  • Leo for getting his job in HB (and getting away from the death trap
  • Melissa for getting her Phantom Works job despite "doing awful on the interview."
  • Sean for getting his job in Seattle
  • Me (?) for maybe taking a promotion and job (and raise?!?!?!?) in Seattle.
  • Suz for getting the kick ass job (that I WANTED!!!) in Anaheim working on teh BIC.  Hope your househunting goes well.
  • David for being completely lame and not being able to come out west.. and not playing any WoW.  therefor.. you're not coming to vegas =).
  • and all the new hires that just came onboard in the nick of time for me to do a nice little knowledge dump on you.  BWUAHAHHA.. oh and congrats on getting the jobs =P *grin*

As you can see.. there was a buttload of hirings recently.  and..  well... with the birthdya.. and Davin's the following week, we decided we need to go celebrate big time.. and what better place that the nation's playground?!   (hey.. i swear... it wasn't MY idea.. i don't even know who all is going, except i have to keep that weekend free enough where i can go to vegas..)

maybe we can stay at the wynn.

ok.. so you may have caught that other tidbit in there..

yeah.. so i've had this standing offer to go to Seattle.. (about 2 weeks now..)   well.. i found out today that they've booked a weekend up there for me to go visit, tour, look for houses.. so i'm flying up next saturday (the 16th).  and man.. i can't express how kinda excited I am about this..  it's like getting that first job offer all over again.. only i'm kinda torn at the same time...

Anyway.. i started looking at houses... and i've found a few that i really like... My god it's like the half off sale at the mall...

and then looking at getting a new car.. and more material goodness.. but..

*sigh*.. i guess we shall see huh?

ok.. so this was senseless ramblings but i wanted tos hare.

Beach Weekend (again)

Posted by bert at 11:34 PM on July 10, 2005 in ME.

Some casual observances...

A Beach weekend kicks ass

two beach weekends in a row kick more ass.

There are certain spots on my back that are red, due to lack of sunblock.   they hurt.

Volleyball sucks if you're playing 1 handed.

and.. my neighbor at one point earlier today.. had two H3 hummers in his garage (how i don't know) and another parked RIGHT in front of the other two.   How he affords gas i do not know.

[edit] in terms of bang for your buck... The Old Spagetti Factory freaking rocks.. good food..  free drinks. bread, salad, icecream...  mmmmm SPUMONI!

The Surreal Life

Posted by bert at 07:38 AM on July 11, 2005 in ME.

I can't begin to explain how much I've been waiting for this show.

I knew that there was Balki from perfect strangers, Jose Canseco, and Omarosa... and i was already excited..

Throw in peppa from Salt and Peppa, a washed up post-coke beauty queen, an "international model", oh man.. good good times.

So anyway.. when Omarosa said, "Thank God there is someone in this house who is more of a drama queen then me.."  (and it was TRUE!?!?)  man... this dysfunction will make for a great season.

and FYI,  Jose Canseco already threatened to beat Omarosa, while Balki has already shown he is a perverted sex offender...   Good (bad) tv ahead.

I want to live near the top of this complex called "the vine" and it only had a gorgeous view of Lake Union and the Space Needle..  *sigh*  700k..  for a 2 br 1.75 ba apt??  can't justify it...  ok... lets keep thinking these over =)

it's a miracle!!!

Posted by bert at 01:40 PM on July 20, 2005 in ME.

or maybe not..

but i got a call into my bosses office yesterday and was told that they were going to finally accomodate my request to do something more technically challenging.   In fact.. i get to pick!!!.   amazing huh?

well...  there was also a dropped mention of me possibly getting promoted too..

what a friggen suprise..   well...  i've told a few people this.. but i think i might get upset if I get a promotion in the coming weeks, since that effectively puts me in a "critical need' status, and prevents my transfers elsewhere.

Mixed Feelings on Airports

Posted by bert at 10:14 AM on July 21, 2005 in ME.

Just a few things to blog about…

I  have mixed feelings about airports.

On one hand.. could there be a slower fast food line on that planet than that at the mcdonalds in an airport terminal.   I believe the answer would be…  nope.

Do slow people purposely go slower through the security check through point?  I heard this exchange today.

Guard: “Take your belt off sir”

Old Man: “No”

Guard: “you will set off the metal detector if you don’t take off your belt.”

Old Man: “the what?”

G:  “please take off your belt and place it in this bin.”

Om: “why?”

G: “so you can pass the metal detector.”

OM: “the what?”

G:  “Just walk forward sir.”

Metal detector goes off.

G: “come with me please”

OM: “why?”

G “you set off the metal detector.”

Anyway…  this goes for at least 5 mintues.. and people in line are like… WTF..

So of course.. 3 people later.. a little old lady….

G: “please help her off her wheel chair”

OL:  “I can’t walk, I’m disabled.”

G: “I understand madam, but we need you to clear the metal detector and search your wheel chair.”

OL: “I can’t stand on my own.. I need my chair. “  she starts to sniffle.

G:  please maam… I’m just trying to do my job…

OL:  Why can’t you just search everyone else.  Why do you have to single me out.?

Anyway…  this lady goes on to have a full on breakdown and start sobbing and crying… I actually don’t know whats worse at this point..   a drama queen that’s 12 years old or a drama queen that 82 years old.   I think the old one would be a lot more annoying.  Wait..  yes.. the older drama queens are a lot more annoying

Ok.. so on the same token…   airports are cool, because I think you get the greatest assortment of people the US population can show.   You get races of kinds using whatever language they use to communication with one another.  You get the working class “road warrior all tussled looking, and you get the screaming little babies who just want to be loved.   So it’s a relatively fun place just to people watch.   Just a great big slice of the semi-upperclass pie.  One day though… plane will fly on my schedule =P

I was Crazy

Posted by bert at 09:02 AM on July 29, 2005 in ME.

I came back to softball as the form of a pitcher.

my line for the day

hitting:

2 for 2 with 2 singles hitting.

Pitching: (remember this is SLOW PITCH softball)

7 innings pitched

2 k's

too many hits to remember.

7 walks (4 in first 2 innings =((((( )

22 runs

12 earned.

team total of 6 errors.

suffice to say..  fielding errors did us/me in.

we lost 22-14

oi ve!
