thank goodness more states are going this route. Basically here's my thought on this... If you can't parallel park consistantly, you shouldn't be able to use a phone while driving.

Thoughts

So i've been pretty busy of late. Lots of things going on.
First off though.. just a comment. There are a HELL OF A LOT of august birthdays out there. My gosh... i don't think i've eaten well for the better part of the last two weeks. First my bday on the 4th, followed by 5 others bdays up to today, not to mention 5 more we have yet to celebrate for teh coming weekend. Thank goodness we don't do gift exchange at x-mas =P
But... Happy Bday to one and all! =)
ok. so now... people are wondering.. Seattle or no? well.. frankly I STILL DO NOT KNOW. So here's what happened. I went for my interview, did pretty well and came back.. thought the offer was in process.. 3 weeks pass without me hearing a thing so i e-mail the boss back and ask what's up. Basically he's got my offer process request sitting in his mailbox, just waiting for him to hit send. oops. Asked me if I still wanted the position to which i said i was still interested. So. Offer was sent to HR just... last Wed. So i should see it... sometime this week. Lets just hope its what i expect. 10% pay increase, promotion, and AWAY from my current job. I think any 2 of the 3 would cause me to take it and run =P.
I had a fun chat with my boss almost immediately after this. Them telling me that they want to move me to green pastures (within my current program) and to get more experience. Well.. we'll see what happens when they see that offer letter, since i'm supposed to give them about 1-2 weeks to counter-offer. My feeling though.... is that I'll be in Seattle by year's end. Will suck that I miss out on all the x-mas partys here.
Lets see.. I registered to take my GMAT in mid September, and have started prepping for that test.
I've started the application process on B-Schools. And have my list limited to the following: Stanford, Harvard, MIT, Duke, UPenn, UNC-CH. (what no NC State? heheh yeah.....). I'm thinking about adding Northwestern, but there is a serious lack of VC money out in Chicago. Not sure why, but it's true. Anyway, i prolly won't get in this year, but at least will be able to ask what else they want out of an engineer to get my MBA in the future. I guess i'll have to explain the D- on my report card though. (it's a really funny story that i'll have to leave to a later date.) Thinking about adding NYU though, but its not like they can do any Tech MBAs or Entreprenuerial MBAs... oh well. =P
hrm.. what else..
I got a brand new kick ass couch that i fall asleep on roughly 3 out of the 7 days of the week. The cat loves it more than me.
Poker still gives me bad beats.
I still have no skillz with the girls, but apparently ladies like my "earnesty." Whatever THAT means...
and... to those who know... I am becoming my own worst enemy. But i think i will be taking the moral highroad in my current *ahem* situation. How's that Golden Rule work again? Do unto others as you would like them to do unto you? DAMNIT...

white water rafting kicked ass...
Posted by bert at 07:50 PM on August 22, 2005 in ME.
Lets see… lets begin at the start.. Minson rented us (a huge group of 24 irresponsible adults) a bus to take us from the good old OC up to the American River (by Sacramento). Leaving at 1:30 p.m. we managed to arrive at a tidy 11:45 p.m.
We arrived at company owned camp site called Earthtrek. The whole goal of the weekend was white water rafting while “roughing it” under the stars. First a few comments… It’s amazing how nice the stars on the west coast are when you get away from the light pollution that is Los Angeles. Or is it the smog that keeps me from seeing the stars? I’m not entirely sure Anyway. Earthtrek is easily the most accommodating and modern camping site I have ever experienced. Lets see… We had meals prepared for us, at tables we could sit at. We had RUNNING WATER in our bathrooms, and actual shower stalls Lets put it this way… this camp site was built to cater to the socialites in Hollywood. To paraphrase Bryon. “It’s roughing it on Paris Hilton type standards.” Hehe.. yup.. I had my own comfy test that they built for me.. with a nice foam mattress pad, and had I forgot a sleeping bag, they would provide that too.
First night we went to this local bbq place where there was live music and beer flowing. Except we got there too late so we didn’t get a chance to participate much with either. Oh… but this is not a problem. No sir not for the drunk bus crew. Did I forget to mention that on the 10+ hour bus trip up, we pretty much drank down about $400 worth of alcohol? Oh yeah.. and the bus provided a couple gallons of wine!. Suffice to say… we were pretty happy and we got happier when we found a dance club (?!?!?) in the middle of nowhere. I wish I got a photo of it, but Andrew managed to split his nose open somehow, and when we woke up Saturday morning, he was hung over and bleeding everywhere.
We woke up to a full course breakfast; sausage, eggs, toast, pancakes, hashbrowns, cereal. Yup…. We were really roughing it. Then 9 a.m. came around and we got our boat assignments, carried it to the water and faced death (or puny class 3 rapids) for the next 8 hours. I’m not really sure how to describe the white water rafting experience except that it’s a freaking blast. So much fun, and you get completely soaked (and burnt to a crisp if you forget that important sun tan lotion thing.). While being in any boat would be fun… if you’re in a boat full of irresponsible out of control pirates…. White water rafting turns into an excursion into the defiant. (yeah… what the hell does that mean?) not sure, but by the end of the day, our boat of me, lucas, amit, mark, matt, and venessa were boarding every shit.. doing cannon balls in the middle of nowhere, and basically finding any excuse to fall out. What’s that you say? Dangerous? I’;m an idiot for doing this with a broken arm? Yes and uh.. yes. Hell we were playing capture the oars with Leo’s boat. We ended up winning when we capsized them. No joke… =)
Ok.. I wish I had better pictures, but we didn’t want to bust out the cameras until we were in still water. So these are the best you’ll get.
8 hours later we returned to land, where we decided to just play a rowdy game of flippy cup. We lined two 11 man teams and proceeded to get louder and louder as the night went on. In hindsight, I guess we could have been slightly better role models (had we thought about it) for the 15-20 children that were on site. But the way I figure it.. if their parents were teaching their kids the deeper details of No Limit Holdem, well.. it’ll only be a matter of time before their kinds learn about alcohol.
Ok.. somewhere along the lines, people puked, and I don’t’ remember much else.. except I found my self awake at 7 a.m. the next morning with my tent completely fallen all over me. (yeah I got pranked). I think I woke up everyone up when I started laughing uncontrollably. I proceeded to get back a few other people, but in their drunken stupor they didn’t realize I was sabotaging their water shoes, tents, beer, clothes, etc. oh well.. they got me good.
We got another 4 hours of rafting in that afternoon before we took off for home again. Seriously some of the most gorgeous open country I have seen in awhile. Snow-capped mountains and free flowing water. Just kicked serious ass. And we had crazy Costa Rican tour guides that liked to be just as rowdy as us… well… A great time was had by all.
Thanks Melissa!.

another seattle trip...
Posted by bert at 10:32 AM on August 28, 2005 in ME.
Work was unusually brutal this week. Despite not working Friday last week, and Friday this week, I logged 42 hours. *sigh*.. and didn’t record all of them. Oh well.. I’ve done worse while I was in school.
I’ve started on my Business school apps, and realized that I need to get a lot more time on the side open to take care of these.. the Stanford essays alone I need to find about 60 hours for….
Oh well.. so the reason I was off Friday this week was because I decided to take another Boeing program on an offer to interview them. It’s the F/22 Program up in Seattle, aka the Raptor, or the “most expensive piece of avionics so far in history (Don’t worry the JSF will beat them =P). I must say.. the interview with them gave me such a positive image of what goes on there. I think if they get me an offer fast enough, (with the promotion) I just may have to take it.. and move to Seattle.
Ok.. so in the meantime. Seattle was built for hanging out and having fun. Last time I came I didn’t take too many pictures.. I changed that this time to show you guys the kind of scenery that I enjoyed these summer weekends. I took in a Mariners’ game (they played the Whitesox so I HAD to go!) in which they lost 5-3 in 12 innings. Went clubbing afterwards and then followed it up with a 4 a.m. session in Chinatown with loveboat buddies Dave and Glo.
Edit: Oh yeah.. and i saw Darude spinning this weekend at a club called Elemental. There are "hella" AzN's in Seattle tho, so that's a big draw back.. =(
I went apartment hunting (yeah go figure) and have a few pictures from that if you want to see it, but I’ve determined I can live very comfortably in downtown Seattle (belltown) for roughly 1250 a month including utilities (but not parking). So that means.. I want a raise on the offer. We shall see… I’m truly confused as to what to do now, which basically means.. I have no fucking clue as usual.
And now I’m chilling at the airport so I can go back to SoCAL, quickly shower and change, and head out to Melissa’s BDay and whit’s Going away party themed… White Trash party. Damnit.. how perfect for me being from the dirty south!!. Hell yeah… I wonder how the other people on the plane would take it if I flew back wearing just the wife beater? =P

Yeah.. you know what that means.. Russell Peters is coming into town.
And we just got tix. hell yeah. for 20 bucks we get to laugh our butts off to Russell, Tracy Morgan, Charlie Murphy, DL Hughley, and 4 or 5 others...
The rest of the week at work will be spent quoting racist jokes.. i wonder how long it will take one of us to tell a boss to 'be a man.'
FYI... in case you don't know who he is... (but try to to be an insenstive clod)
