quick updates

Posted by bert at 06:48 PM on November 3, 2005 in ME.

went to House of Blues last night and learned two things.

1.)  Wed night is voodoo lounge night.  must remember this for future singspirations.

2.)  Reverse happy hour means...  cheap drinks later at night.   Somehow this HAS to backfire..  not sure how.. but it HAS to.

happy early birthday to the cousin.

the gym

Posted by bert at 12:19 AM on November 9, 2005 in ME.

i've noticed that there aren't very many good looking girls at the gym after 9 p.m.

and if they're there, they don't wear clothing that is THAT revealing..

as opposed to when i go at 5:30 after work where there are tons of hot girls in nearly no clothing.   Funny how that works...

thursday night is like hottie tv.  really is.  Man.. reunion you can just leave on mute and just watch the talent walk back and forth.  It's like an episode of Las Vegas (great show), but you don't need to stay at home on a friday night to watch it.

A few random thoughts

Posted by bert at 11:20 PM on November 13, 2005 in ME.

man that Wydmer Hefenweisen is great.

old friends are the best.

watching the world series of poker is insane.  the internet players has really changed the dynamics of the game.   people arent' afraid of losing.. like just love the thrill of chasing.. and they hit so much more often than they should.

I think Jesse Jackson does more to alienate the american society, than to integrate.  http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2005/football/nfl/11/13/owens.jackson.ap/index.html?cnn=yes

I'm sick of hearing about that prick wide receiver in philly.

The Bears at 6-3, and are leading the NFC Central.

Jon Gruden had balls

Churros + Ice cream = great date

my knowledge of computers is completely outdated.  I didn't know mobo's don't come without AGP slots anymore. oops

harry potter on imax.  yup.  be jealous linda.

yao ming is hilarious.

betting against the colts covering the spread each week is like gauranteed money.  Except the one week they're playing the Patriots. =)

Hybrid Vehicles vs. Normal Cars

Posted by bert at 09:43 AM on November 14, 2005 in ME.

Ok, we know SUV's chug gas like crazy.  and that hybrids are good for the environment, but what about comparing 'like' vehicles?   Say a 2006 Jetta and a 2006 Prius?

Read the following article.  If your goal is to save money on gas, you can see how much $$$ you actually are saving.   And yes. this is from slashdot.

so i got to go to the chargers/bills game this weekend thanks to Adrian hooking me up with field level tickets!.  Supersweet!!.   we ended up being at teh 12 yard line with 11th row seats.   Silly Insane!  i mean. i could see the cheerleaders bellybuttons we were so close =)

Game was lobsided blowout, but we had fun.   48-10 Chargers.. and the crowd was easily pissed they gave up those 10 points too.   (i was actually quite shocked given how poorly buffalo played).

Anyway.. he's the best picture from the game =)

Most annoying travel day ever.

Posted by bert at 08:53 PM on November 27, 2005 in ME.

Northwest Airlines.   Flight at 8:15 in the A.M.   Woke up at 5:30 for my flight.  Left for airport at 6:15  arrived at 6:30 for check in.   Upon checking in, we find out that my flight through Minneapolis/ St. Paul has been delayed 2 hours.  Ok.. no big deal.   I can handle a 2 hour delay.  Shit happens.

I get to the podium (since kiosks won’t function with the 2 hour delay),  and am told that my flight to Orange County is “not available” out of Minneapolis/ St. Paul.

WHAT?!?!?

“instead I can put you on the 2 p.m. flight to Memphis that would get you into SNA at 9:45 p.m.”

I ask what my other options are, and they say there are n other options, everyone is packed.  Wow… jeez lucky me..  the guy next to me?   He promptly gets HIS 10:15 ticket to Minnesota while I’m still stuck in line.  Of course I’m asking why I can’t get a ticket.

The reason:

Well sir, their final destination ins Minneasota, while yours is not, so we can get them where they need to be, but all your flights to Orange County are full until the 7 p.m. (CST) out of Detroit.

After about 20 seconds of thought, I tell them ok.. book me on that flight.   And give me a lunch voucher here.   And I get the following reply.

“ oh I’m sorry sir, I can’t confirm your seat reservation on this flight,  what would you like me to do.”

Ok.. so at this point..  I’m peaved…  I mean.. jeez lady what do you mean you can’t “confirm” my seat.   Wtf does that mean?

So…  I say..  make sure I have a seat there.. and if I walk up and down the ticketing booths and find a open seat, you’ll put me on it right?   They agreed.

So I walk to Continental, no dice… then to Delta where they MIRACULOUSLY have a flight at 8 a.m. (and it was ONLY 7 a.m. to boot.)  with one catch…. It was a first class ticket.   I ask the flight lady to hold the ticket while I go ask northwest,  to which I was given a ticket authorization to fly.  I told her it was a first class ticket… and she immediately prints me a stub and I’m off on my way to Delta in first class..  I get there and talk to the lady, and TAH DAH!!!!...   northwest only gave you approval on coach..  They give the lady at NWA a call.. and asked if they could authorize first class.  They decline..  and I’m back to square one.   Delta goes beyond the call of duty to look at competitor airlines in the airport and finds that American Airlines has a 9:45 a.m. open.

But can’t get me on that because it turns out the “authorization” given to me was just a receipt.

The people behind the counter begin to giggle as I darken 3 shades of red.

My third time in the NWA line and I actually cheat this time around (I walked into the “first class” line.  Hehehehhe. ).  I figure.. I’ve been at the blasted airport for about 2 hours now, I’m BEYOND the line.  Anyway..  I’m told that my 2 p.m. flight is for sure no available.. but there was a 4:45 that if I wanted could have.    I take the ticket… and call my parents for a ride back home.

I ONLY delayed the flight 8 hours.. and the flight attendants are mad  at me.

Oh well who cares…  who told them to have 2 people working paper tickets on one of the BUSIEST flying days of the year.   No wonder NWA is bankrupt.

On another note.  This was my first time flying northwest in 5 years.  Basically I haven’t flown them since I was allowed my own financial decisions.   I flew them cuz they had a cheap ticket, but my bad.  Lessons learned.   And I will NEVER EVER fly NWA again.  Just not worth the pain and hassle.  Sure other airlines can delay and the such, but I’ve never seen an airline so consistently be delayed for any old reason.  It’s ludicrous, and frankly bullshit.  My patience  and tolerance with delays in flight plans is generally very lenient.. but today I was flat out pissed.   I have open tickets on TWO major airlines, and they would not do a damn thing to help me.  I had to go talk to OTHER carriers and see if they had open flights.   No one smidgen of help,  and in the end I was delayed over 8 hours.   Its ridiculous, and NWA has officially lost all future business with me.   If you think I’m nuts and can’t follow through, ask the suits at bestbuy what I in regards to them.

Oh and yeah.. I’m writing a letter to the president of NWA.

I’ll post it here too =P

Interesting travel note.  While sitting in Detroit I heard the following page for a flight.   Will traveler Tupac Shakur please report to counter at A68.  A Tupac Shakur please.   A68.  See we all knew he wasn’t dead.

When I travel next I want to travel as…  Jerry Garcia
