a reminder

Posted by bert at 07:26 PM on January 2, 2006 in ME.

i forget how fortunate I am sometimes and bitch and moan about the smallest of inconsequences.

something bad happens to me, like my flight getting canceled..  means that i got to pick up my dad from the dialysis center?

that place makes me so sad sometimes.

I see people in there all the time that have lost appendages (blood clots, poisoning etc causing them to sever their limbs).  no kidding... their kidney has screwed up their body so badly.

And i see my dad, who has been through so much.   His kidney has failed on him.  and yet every day he is happy as clams.   he undergoes a 4 hour dialysis treatment 3 days a week, that he has to wake up at 5 a.m. for.   He broke his hip early last year due to negligence on a assisted care facility responsible for his well being..  yet through it all..  he shows such a positive love for life.   How can I not be amazed?

and when i think about my concerns in relation to his..  well.. don't they seem petty?   oh..  that girl rejected me..  what does that compare to my dad's kidney rejecting him?     Nah.

If my dad can show sheer joy with his lot in life...  Well.  i can at least be grateful for my health and family too =).

Happy holidays all.. and i hope everyone will have a wonderful new year.

nothing to write about really...

saw memoirs of a geisha.. pretty good movie..

except for the fact they took out the first 100 pages.. the last 50 pages.. and about 100 pages in between... and the whole romance thing is 10x sketchier seeing it than reading about it.

and now i think i'm done with movies for a good month or so.

nothing new really.

lesson in management

Posted by bert at 02:54 PM on January 9, 2006 in ME.

i was talking to someone about this at lunch and didn't want it to leave really.. so a quick post is necessary.

something to the effect of..

as a manager.   when you are new to a situation, you should be the one imposing your will on everyone else.  You go in.. and learn from everyone else.. after you learn and you still think there is something wrong..  then you change.. but by golly.. learn first.

If they (managers) want to change it, they'll change it later. They have to learn first.

what are you protesting?

http://www.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS/01/24/nsa.strategy/index.html

ok i have time again.. amazing.

this is one of the new political hot issues that the democrats have been using to attack the President.  it's the classic debate of security vs. privacy rights.

this has some people up in arms about policies that can and most likely do violate your privacy rights.   Wire-tapping phones so government can listen in on your phone conversation if you are a suspected terrorist.

Look.  lets face it.  The 21st century is definitely well-entrenched in the information age, and frankly he who knows the most wins.

If there is a suspected terrorist living 5 houses down the road from me... would i want his phone tapped or not?  UH>. DUH!!!.

would i let the government tap the surrounding neighborhood too in order to help them figure out if that guy is a terrorist?  You know damn well i would.   Am i giving up some of my rights as a citizen of this country?  sure..  but you know?  i'd rather not have my next continental flight to newark hi-jacked, so I would put up with it.

Look.. the government really doesn't care what your plans are for friday night with your new GF are..  They don't care if your cross dress... or pick your nose.  Does it really offend you that much if someone potentially listens in on your phone convo?

I don't understand the motives of the media...

Posted by bert at 09:54 AM on January 25, 2006 in ME.

ok.. see.  i'm back on my media bashing ways.

first read this.

http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/01/25/army.study.ap/index.html

ok.. now.. I'm all for having our military back here ASAP.  But really.. what's the purpose for publishing this article?  Why bitch and moan about something we're not going to do anything about?  Why broadcast this so the ENEMY can see this and use it to motivate their masses more?   The media wants us to pull troops out..  and if we do right now.. we lose.

Yes guys... war sucks.  It really does and i wish this whole thing was over, but you know.. it's not.. and its not going to end anytime soon.  I really wish Bush would just put up a 1 Billion dollar bounty on Osama Bin Laden's head right now.  And we would need the head physically and then spike it on top of the new Freedom Towers being built over teh ruins of the WTC.

Come on.. 1 Billion Dollars for a contract kill.  Really isn't that much?  I'd support it.  Hell I'd donate like $5k towards that fund.
