f'ing health insurance

Posted by bert at 10:14 AM on September 12, 2006 in ME.

I was told that boeing would provide me with health insurance while i was on my "leave of absense."  I was told to not worry about it.

but our health insurance company reserves the right to change crap at any time.  and they did.  (assholes)

so i lose medical insurance coverage after 9/31/2006.  and i'm looking at getting myself covered for the next two years.

God... the medical insurance options out there are AWFUL.  AWFUL I TELL YOU.  no wonder so much of this countries GDP is siphoned off by medicaid/medicare.

F this.. i wanna work at boeing again and have all my nice benefits in my nice comfy life...

"but what would i do to challenge myself?""

who cares..  i'd get 10 hours of sleep.

gotta love "recruiting" events

Posted by bert at 06:52 PM on September 19, 2006 in ME.

the life of the MBA student revolves around getting a job..  and before we get our jobs, we have recruitment events.

Last night i went to the johnson and johnson corporate event.  Pretty interesting idea.. lots of pharma, lots of health care, lots of options.   Definitely an interesting company to work for if you want a little freedom of decision in your career, but unfortunately I don't think it's for me.

They told me they're not interested in hiring domestic (read US Citizens) for any of their international divisions.   And yeah i want to kinda flee the country for a few years and just travel.   Gotta get out of my comfort zone!

Anyway, i didn't post this just so i can tell you about how my recruitment options work, but rather to just laugh about one of the door prizes J&J gave us.   Lol.. did you know they produced KY Jelly?  I didn't know that, but i won't forget now. =)  Esp when they give us that and baby lotion in our grab bags.   Well.. i did get a toothbrush too =)

group work sucks

Posted by bert at 07:11 AM on September 21, 2006 in Kenan-Flagler.

yes this is about school, but...

i like how i seem to always get stuck with the same type of person.

we have a group assignment and divvy up the parts.

two teams (one of 2 and one of 3 people).

2 questions a piece, and all we have to do is get it done in less than a week.

we agree to meet 2 days prior to due date to consolidate our work.  and then when we get there, i hear.  "oh i was really busy." or "oh i had a lot of work."

which means they didn't do it.  one person said the material was "over his head."

 omg. wtf.

suffice to say.. 2 pepople haven't looked at the material yet.. and now we're stuck doing their work too, cuz our grade depends on it.   why couldn't this crap be trivial or something.

a month later

Posted by bert at 06:08 PM on September 26, 2006 in ME.

I've officially been in Kenan-Flagler for a month now.   My typical week now consists of going to school for about 10-12 hours a day.  then doing homework for the rest

Today was the first time playing basketball in a month.  i sucked.

funny thing is that in this month.. i've managed to lose weight.

but i know why.  I don't have nancy to eat lunch with every day.  My God, that girl made me at least 10 pounds heavier.   Instead of eating a steady staple of Pho, Quiznos, BJ's, Mexican food, Peruvian food,  FATTY FOOD!

now i eat PB&Js, maybe some Turkey sandwiches, and from time to time... pizza.  oh dang how the mighty have fallen.

to continue on teh rant of what i miss.. I was talking to Joe who was in Hawaii at the time, and he's like.. "where should I go eat?"  Immediately.. i knew.  L&L's.  their beefstew (only on the islands) is immaculate.  And then Zippys chilly.  and the garlic shrimp on the carts in north shore.  and..   i love food too much to be stuck in this BFE place.

ok..  17 months and counting.

while I have been eating poorly, i also realize that being poor makes you hungry in more ways than one.   3 years of Boeing and I got lazy.  One month of this crap and I have my hunger back.  Meeting with some VC's next week.  I'm going to see if i can get my startup set up as my internship this summer.  If not.. i want to go to HK =)  we'll see.
