things to do before end of year

Posted by bert at 10:08 AM on October 1, 2006 in ME.

Wait a moment.  This is just a lame attempt at a mid-year new year's resolution!

ok you caught me.  but.. blah i don't give a crap.   I feel like posting and since it IS the internet and you can't stop me. here it is.  the top 7 things i wanna do.

1.)  Finish my business plans - Honestly.. i have 3 business plans in the works and one just sitting there with an idea template that i've barely started with.. and some other ideas floating around.   I'm finishing one of these once and for all, and I'll subject myself to a b-plan competition and get ripped to shreds and let the evil all white people steal my shit and call it....  iTV.  and yes.. i just called Apple Evil.  how's that for irony.  and i do wub Microsoft.  Somehow i feel like i've just been kicked out the North Carolina Chapter of Geeks and Nerds.  So be it..  I'm a b-school kid now.

2.)  Go to a NFL football game.  dagnabit.. last one i saw what that horrible chargers game.  At least teh cheerleaders in front of us were hot (sorta).  I have no real attachment to any of these teams (chargers not playing phil, wait till i move away before putting him in the starting lineup... ).  UNC is awful.  I can't watch this crap.  Good thing we have bucs/panthers coming up.

3.) Win another poker tournament.  i may be stretching this one.. But i haven't hit in a few months.  Then again i haven't played much in the past few months either.  Gotta keep my mind sharp for the MBA Poker Tourney in Vegas that Tom is still trying to talk me into.

4.) Not do my homework at the last minute.   I've been pretty good about this during the school year.  Except last week when i did my accounting on the absolute last day.

5.) Go talk to complete sweet and spectacularly hot bartender at Deepend.  ok.. more than talk to, but ask out.. $20 say i chicken out anyway.

6.) But Erika at BW3's is a definite possibility.

7.) Update my Myspace/facebook/other stupid ass social networking site.

8.) Learn to count

9.) Finish diversifying my portfolio.

10.) Get my mom the biggest and best gift ever.

every 7 weeks i'll have finals.

why am i in b-school again?

btw.  apparently it's not a good thing to tell a girl that you "are the hottest cripple girl I have ever met."

Yes, I saw the Southpark Episode

Posted by bert at 05:22 AM on October 5, 2006 in ME.

god... who knew that THIS was what i was known for.  Shoot.. i played WoW for a bit (World of Warcraft) and Southpark did something to make jest at it (using real screen shots and maps and world locations and server names and everything no less).

but good lord..  i go to the bathroom after the first break and come back to roughly 45 new IMs.   Where the heck are you people normally?  but when they're taking a crack at something i once did...

"dude,  is World of Warcraft really like that?"

"good thing you didn't get that fat."

"did you use headsets to chat" [yes, its called teamspeak you nub]

"did you use the language too?" [yes, everyone got pwned]

"how long did it take you to level 50 levels?" [my first character took well over 6 months, my 2nd in less than 1 month, with powerleveling asssitance from a guildy]

"do you still play?" [No, i sold my account on eBay.]

there were more, but I'm not answering them

gawd... almost 4 years in Cali, and i was known for WoW...  gee thanks guys.   good thing i don't make my blog too public =P

google does politics?

Posted by bert at 05:49 AM on October 5, 2006 in ME.

i haven't talked politics in awhile, doesn't mean i'm not interested just.. i havent talked it =)

one thing i have to get back to is the nice way legislators include laws into their packages. (*cough* new antigambling measure is included in a physical port security bill)

well whatever.  I'm hear to talk about Google.

http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2-2006460135,,00.html

ok.. so the question is.. how many people trust google more than any of their politician friends.  I think it'll be very interesting to how many people are swayyed/informed just by google doing this.  Imagine if they embedded it into the google homepage at google.com and just run a smattering of "truths and lies" from our politicians.  Imagine i you could search for your local congressmen/women a couple of days before the election.  This would take one of the GREATEST powers politicians have.  The unyielding mob mentality that is the ignorant voter.  I mean, Cali kids can find out that dianne feinstein and lois capps while on the energy committee seats, are discouraging the expansion of offshore drilling despite multiple technological advances.   Democrats may be hardened by that, but the question to these kids is... "who the heck is Diane Feinstein? (which i hope MOST know) and "who is Lois Capps (who is 20x less famous)?"

and then to do it unbiasedly?

some random innovations from my drive

Posted by bert at 06:14 PM on October 22, 2006 in ME.

So yeah..i like to think alot and recently i haven't had much of an opportunity to do so.

but.. while driving up to NY and then Down to NC and then down to ATL and then back to NC, i had a bit of time.

but before that.

The Departed was a great movie, between that and Talladega Nights, the only movies i'm glad i paid for.

which btw is what my movie going experience now is all about.  Is to see something and be shocked that it's good!  i no longer expect good movies, but rather try to anticipate them.

BTW Music and Recording Industry... this is why your industry is losing money, not because of pirates.

... and now we return you to our regularly scheduled programming.

Things i thought about.

that Heroe's is a great and fun tv show.   too bad it's aimed at geeks like me..   or is it.  Well they do have Ali Larter and Hayden Pana...  whatever the little girl from Remember the Titans' name is...  maybe it'll succeed on the hotness of its leading characters.

Then again.. Evangeline Lilly.  omg.

hehe.. ok.. real stuff

1.)  Why doesn't Coke/Pepsi/Whoever advertise on the interstates?   I seriously got off at an intersection because I was thirsty or tired and we all know that i think Dr. Pepper has mythical properties when it comes to waking me up.  Yes.. i pulled off for a Dr. Pepper and could not find it.   but it got me to thinking..  BRAND IDENTITY!!!.   why not drive brand identity on those ugly blue signed all up and down the interstates.   Or leave persuasive red bottle shapes along the freeway.   Even dropping subliminal messages that yes.. you would definitely want a Diet Coke *yummmmmm aspertame*) right now.   Hey man, it's the new age of marketing,  get ready for lots of crap in your face.

2.) uh.  so..  you know how in virginia they have those lines on the road that they say they use planes to monitor your speed?   those lines are usually about 1 mile apart or something, and they just "supposedly" watch when you cross one after the next and time you.  use that reading to figure out just how fast you are going.

anyway so i was thinking.. well.. calling from a plane requires a lot of technology and a lot of that is lost in the bandwidth, which from my satcom days i know means repeating the message many times to make sure you have teh RIGHT message.  This means crap like video transmission sucks.  and at higher altitudes even voice.   Did you know that if you were on a plane and had to make one of those expensive ass calls, and if everyone wanted to do it.. it wouldn't let you since the system would overload?

well.. there's an easy way around that.  Welcome to the 21st century.  yah.. why don't planes allow us to text message people?  um.. errr.. duh.........

3.) there are a lot of bad drivers out there.  I want a quick textmessagable board that i can put on the side of my car to just say..  "stop driving 55 mph in the far left lane!"  ok i'm sure everyone has thought about this from time to time.

4.) rotting fruit in the car is not cool.  (addressed to a certain aunt who insisted on me taking it down I-95)

5.) why is food quality so different from state to state (more like region to region?)  why aren't there people in raleigh doing something about it.  poor SC peeps. =P

6.) they need to incorporate gps trackers on the public bus systems in <insert major city here>.  and that would link up wiht some website that you could activate through your phones wireless browser.  and it would update every 15 minutes or so, so you could know when your bus was coming next.   Not every city has a subway system like Gotham.

7.)  Man.. P&G really should have sold that SK-II line.  I can't beleive we let a few hours of sleep let us get beat by those blowhards.  grats to julie anyway.

8.)  I love New York.  I would never be able to live there.

9.)  I thought I hated atlanta.  It's not so bad.  and actually is now #2 on my list of places to retire in.  After Pac NW of course.

10.) I need to start a company.  I'm never happy with all these companies, but man... BCG was close.

how does TiVo get away with it.

Posted by bert at 05:56 AM on October 24, 2006 in ME.

So what tivo does is copy tv shows.   but more importantly they filter through your tv signal and pass it along to your tv.

So technically they are copying and distributing a copyrighted product.

So why doesn't the DRM apply to them?   just curious because if it doesn't...  does it apply to Apples iTV concept?

i feel like crap

Posted by bert at 08:06 PM on October 29, 2006 in ME.

i feel like the lowest form of crap. I feel like i cheated on my GF.

I had an opportunity to leave my case competition group to participate in an event that we weren't guaranteed to be involved in.  (there's like a 10% chance), and i took it for a 100$ chance of involvement.

it took me a good 2 hours to mull over.. and talk to my buddies over.. and I still feel like shit...

Man.. i wonder how i would feel if i ever cheated on someone...

*sigh*  now i have to win it for them.   Kiss goodbye to my social life this week ( minus halloween of course =P)
